Experiential Learning Through the Cooperative Education Lifecycle (EXCEL)

Experiential Learning through the Cooperative Education Lifecycle (EXCEL) focuses on using an interdisciplinary research approach to:

  • measure the effect of experiential learning on student achievement outcomes.
  • improve STEM education by promoting evidence-based STEM educator identity development, and authentic STEM learning.

EXCEL aims to develop the preeminent scholarship on experiential learning, as well as to leverage and expand STEM education innovations developed at Drexel into models that can have national impact. The project will answer much foundational questions such as:

  • What does an effective experiential learning experience in STEM look like?
  • Does student engagement in experiential learning affect STEM curriculum and instruction?
  • Is experiential learning more beneficial to specific student groups or students in specific STEM disciplines?
  • What is the effect of incorporating multiple experiential learning experiences into a STEM learning experience?
