      The beginning of an academic year is always a joyful and exciting time, as we reunite with friends and colleagues and welcome a new class of Drexel Dragons. Another momentous occasion marks the start of this fall quarter: The official opening of Drexel University’s new Health Sciences Building, which is already coming to life with the first classes of the year. Located at 36th and Filbert Streets, this 12-story, 460,000-square-foot building will serve as the academic home of the College of Nursing and Health Professions, the College of Medicine and the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Professional Studies, uniting many of Drexel’s health-related programs in one incredible space.

    • Guidance for Instructors on Classroom Masking

      August 25, 2022

      As announced in Monday's message from the Return Oversight Committee, Drexel will become mask recommended in our academic spaces, and in all indoor public areas except for health care settings, effective September 6. Drexel continues to recommend wearing high quality, well-fitting masks when indoors and around others. However, consistent with public health guidance in the context of a heavily vaccinated campus, indoor masking is no longer required after September 6.

    • Senior Vice Provost Erin McNamara Horvat Named Interim Dean for School of Education

      August 19, 2022

      After the sudden passing of Dean Penny Hammrich left the School of Education in need of an interim leader, Erin McNamara Horvat, PhD, senior vice provost for Faculty Advancement and Undergraduate Affairs, will serve as interim dean of the School, beginning August 22. A seasoned administrator, Dr. Horvat joined Drexel University in 2015 as professor and associate dean for Academic Affairs in the School of Education and in 2016 joined the Office of the Provost. She served as senior vice provost for Faculty Affairs from 2016-2019 overseeing policy and procedures and faculty development for all colleges and schools.

Gitlin, PhD, prepares to end her tenure as dean and return to the faculty at the end of January 2023, the College of Nursing and Health Professions will move forward under the leadership of Interim Dean Ann Branchini, PhD.       Leslie Ashburn-Nardo, PhD, has been appointed professor of psychology and inaugural Vice Provost for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, effective September 1. An internationally recognized social psychologist with expertise in diversity science, Leslie will collaboratively lead DEI work across the Office of the Provost and academic and research operations. Partnering with Drexel's Chief Diversity Officer, colleges and schools and Provost's Office team, she will bolster DEI work related to the University's Strategic Plan, the commitments of the Anti-Racism Task Force report and other campus-wide efforts to build a diverse, equitable and welcoming campus community.
