Dr. Yuanfang Cai developed an analysis tool that helps developers keep huge software projects in line. Her own project got help from Drexel Ventures, the University's technology accelerator and transfer enterprise.

Drexel Ventures provides business development support to faculty whose innovations have the potential to spin off commercial products. Cai, an associate professor in the College of Computing & Informatics, received one of the first grants from the Drexel Innovation Fund, created by Drexel Ventures to provide proof-of-concept funding to promising projects.

Cai's research has shown a strong correlation between error-proneness and software architecture: Hundreds of "buggy" files can be propagated from just a few architectural hot spots. She developed Titan, a tool that captures hot spots and helps software companies better visualize the architecture of their products over time to combat bugs. One major customer is already lined up, with several other leading firms in the pipeline.
