It's a familiar panic: Your smartphone, your lifeline to the world, is about to die without an outlet in sight. Two Drexel students set out to find a solution.

Launched by LeBow College of Business students Jason Browne and David Hunt in early 2014, SPOR is a simple, compact device that uses the power of the sun and even artificial light to charge smartphones, tablets and cameras, more than one at a time. It includes a small solar panel, a battery about twice the size of an average phone battery and a thick shell customized with 3D-printing — and fits into the palm of your hand.

"What we're selling is access to electricity, basically being able to help people generate electricity wherever they are," says Browne, who majored in business with a concentration in entrepreneurship.

Browne and Hunt, who graduated in June 2014, completed a successful Kickstarter campaign that blew past its goal of $100,000. Having proved their company's worth to investors, they traveled to China to source components and begin production. SPOR is just starting to charge up, and there's no telling what its two electrifying founders can achieve.
