Jahzeel Martinez Receives a 2025 SPS Google Scholarship
May 15, 2025
Congratulations to Jahzeel Martinez, who was awarded a 2025 Society of Physics Students (SPS) Google Scholarship! This award, given to up to five students per year, supports passionate physics and astronomy students who have overcome significant obstacles and have the potential for continued academic success. In addition to the scholarship, Jahzeel will be connected to Google through special events for recipients.

Jahzeel Martinez is currently traversing intersections between quantum mechanics, statistical modeling, and philosophical inquiry through research at Drexel University. Raised in a context where precision was not a luxury but endurance itself, he is now applying this instinct to trace order beneath complexity. He is contributing to computational lipid modeling through the Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Support program and currently simulating beamlines for the EMPHATIC experiment at Fermilab to refine neutrino flux prediction.
As Outreach Coordinator for the Drexel chapter of the Society of Physics Students, Jahzeel is focused on broadening the culture of physics from within – helping peers navigate a field often gated by language, access, or silence. He is also supporting Drexel's Climate & Sustainability organization, aligning environmental resilience with system-level thinking. Outside the laboratory, he is building general-purpose software, studying Mandarin and German, and channeling emotional states through graphite media – each practice a different syntax for asking better questions.
Jahzeel is planning to pursue doctoral research in quantum technologies to design forecasting systems that help humanity face uncertainty – not through conjecture, but illumination.
The SPS Google Scholarship supports passionate physics and astronomy students as they pursue their dreams. Students who are interested in applying can reach out to UREP at fellowships@drexel.edu for application support.
