Sonny Vaccaro Joins Drexel for Annual Sport for Social Change Conference

Sonny Vaccaro, one of the most “influential and controversial” (Washington Post) figures in sports, will join Drexel University on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 13 – 14 as the keynote speaker for its annual Sport for Social Change Conference. The conference will feature discussions on social justice in sport, athlete’s rights, the future of the NCAA, the misappropriation of American Indian imagery in sport and youth participation in sport. The conference is hosted by the Drexel University Sport Management Student Union (SMTSU), an undergraduate student organization, and the Department of Sport Management in the Center for Hospitality and Sport Management.

Drexel Students Will Help Project HOME Make and Jar Cranberry Sauce to Raise Money to End Homelessness

Just in time for the holidays, students from Drexel University’s Center for Hospitality and Sport Management will team up with Project HOME on Oct. 28 at the Free Library of Philadelphia to make and jar cranberry sauce. All of the proceeds from the sales of the sauce will support Project HOME’s initiatives to provide job training for formerly homeless individuals.

TV Chef Carla Hall Teams up with Drexel Students to Develop New Nashville-Inspired Restaurant in New York City

Chef and TV personality Carla Hall plans to open a number of casual, Nashville-inspired restaurants called Carla Hall’s Southern Kitchen, with the help of students from Drexel University’s Center for Hospitality and Sport Management. In a unique partnership, culinary and hospitality students at Drexel will work alongside Hall and her team to learn every aspect of opening a new restaurant and help develop the first location in New York City.

Drexel Dedicates Casino Training Lab to Late Gaming Visionary Dennis Gomes

The new casino training lab in Drexel University’s Center for Hospitality and Sport Management will be named the Dennis Gomes Memorial Casino Training Lab after the late gaming visionary, with the support of the Gomes family. A dedication ceremony will take place in the lab, which is located in Drexel’s Paul Peck Problem-Solving Building (101 N. 33rd St.), on Monday, Oct. 6 at 5:30 p.m.
