Newly discovered dinosaur was king of the giants
Thousands of news outlets worldwide on Sept. 4 and 5 featured the discovery and scientific publication of a new dinosaur species, Dreadnoughtus schrani, with the most complete skeleton of any of the most supermassive land animals ever found, by a team led by Kenneth Lacovara, PhD, an associate professor in the College of Arts and Sciences. Some of the most noteworthy coverage included BBC-TV (aired in the UK and distributed internationally), the CBS Evening News, the Washington Post (where it is the No. 1 most-read story online), USA Today, Associated Press, Reuters, National Geographic, Scientific American, Philadelphia Inquirer, Huffington Post and Los Angeles Times (where the story ran on the front page in print). The stories that ran in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal were highlighted on the front page of the print editions on Sept. 5, and the story has reached the “most emailed” and “most viewed” lists on NYTimes.com.
