Knight is a teaching professor and associate head of the Materials Science and Engineering Department in the College of Engineering. He has an extensive background in materials science with a focus on thermal plasma processes, plasma melting, high-velocity oxy-fuel flame spray process, thermal spray deposition and materials diagnostics. As a teaching professor, Knight draws on his broad background in materials science and electrical engineering. He is the coordinator of the department’s annual Materials Camp and faculty advisor for the Drexel University Material Advantage student chapter.
He has more than 25 years of experience in the design, development and use of electric arc and thermal plasma systems for materials processing and testing and more than 15 years in the development of techniques for thermal spraying of metals, ceramics, composites, polymers, and polymer-ceramic nano-composite coatings. Knight also serves as the MSE Department's chemical hygiene officer and liaison with the University’s Environmental Health & Safety department.
