Alex Ortega, PhD

Professor, Chair, Department of Health Management and Policy, Director of the Center for Population Health and Community Impact

Dornsife School of Public Health

Ortega’s research focuses on health improvement and disparities in underserved populations, particularly Latino families and children. Much of his work has especially focused on undocumented immigrant populations or those who are disenfranchised in other ways, such as through language barriers. Ortega has also led studies specifically looking at the ways that the Affordable Care Act has improved gaps in health outcomes and behaviors of Americans of different racial and ethnic groups.

His research has also covered the ways that food swamps in urban areas can be rectified through youth engagement, social justice strategies and commercial transformation efforts.
