Amanda Lough, PhD

Assistant Professor, Department of Biodiversity, Earth and Environmental Sciences

College of Arts and Sciences

Lough’s research focuses on earthquakes, particularly those related or connected to volcanoes. Her work encompasses seismic events related to active volcanoes and those that may be dormant, and includes a phenomenon called deep long period seismic events, which remain mysterious to the scientific community. A classically-trained geologist, Lough has made trips to Antarctica to study seismicity there beneath the glaciers.
