Barry Furrow is a pioneer in the field of health law. His expertise spans a wide array of health-related topics, including health care policy, regulation and finance, patient safety, patient privacy, mental health, provider accountability, medical ethics and bioethics and legal issues of pain management. Furrow is the lead author of “Health Law — Cases, Materials and Problems” (now in its 7th edition), which remains the leading casebook in the field. He is also co-author of the treatise, “Health Law,” which the U.S. Supreme Court has cited three times. He has written more than three dozen law review articles on state and federal regulation of medical errors and patient safety, pain management, sports medicine, tort reform, medical privacy and regulation of scientific research. Furrow currently is an associate of the Center for Bioethics of the University of Pennsylvania.

The article was picked up by numerous outlets including the Miami Herald, The Daily Beast, MedPage Today, HealthLeaders among others.

    Barry Furrow, JD, a professor and director of Drexel's health law program in the Kline School of Law, was quoted in a June 23 WPVI-TV (6-abc) news segment about the Senate Republican health bill, elaborating on how and whom it will effect.



  • 'Benevolent Gesture' Legislation is tested in other states

    Barry Furrow, a professor in the Earle Mack School of Law and director of the Health Law Program, was interviewed on WHYY/ on October 23 about a new Pennsylvania law that prevents certain expressions of condolences or sympathies by doctors from being used in lawsuits.

    Barry Furrow, a professor in the Earle Mack School of Law, was interviewed on NPR’s All Things Considered about a new law in Pennsylvania that grants physicians access to information about trade-secret chemicals used in natural gas drilling.

    President Obama’s historic health care law, the Affordable Care Act, went into effect on Jan. 1, dramatically altering the nation's health care landscape. Amidst the rollout of the embattled law, Drexel University’s School of Law will host a book signing and discussion with nationally known health law scholars Robert I. Field, PhD, and Barry R. Furrow.
