Drexel Joins Philadelphia's Weeklong Celebration of Science

Students, faculty and staff from around the University will be participating in the Philadelphia Science Festival starting this weekend. The annual celebration of science is a week full of fun and learning for all ages, culminating with a carnival on the Ben Franklin Parkway on Saturday, April 28.

The schedule of events for the week is available at: https://www.fi.edu/psf/programs. Drexel’s science minds will join in the festivities by leading a variety of events, demonstrations and workshops. Here’s where you’ll be able to find the Dragons throughout the week:

Monday, April 23

The Future of Food

Scientists from Drexel’s Center for Food and Hospitality Management and Department of Nutrition Sciences will discuss food sustainability, nutrition and the science of our sensory perception.

Tuesday, April 24

Science After School

  • At Lawncrest Library participants will learn about dinosaurs — living and extinct — with representatives from the Academy of Natural Sciences.
  • At the Logan Library, Drexel scientists and engineers will lead visitors through experiments and hands-on activities.

Community Night

The Franklin Institute welcomes Science Festival guests for a free evening of programming and access to the Institutes permanent exhibits, including The Giant Heart and Your Brain. Representatives from the Lindy Center for Civic Engagement will participate in the demonstrations and special programs about chemistry and physics we encounter every day.

Thursday, April 26

Brain Food: Science at the Night Market

Explore Reading Terminal Market afterhours in a scavenger hunt with representatives from the Lindy Center for Civic Engagement to learn about the science behind the market and its merchants.

Saturday, April 28

Science Carnival on the Parkway

Scientist will take over the Ben Franklin Parkway on Saturday, with more than 160 activities, demonstrations and events for the while family. Representatives from the College of Arts and Sciences, the Center for the Advancement of STEM Teaching & Learning Excellence (CASTLE) and student groups including TechServ and the Society for Women Engineerings, will be among the Drexel presenters at the Carnival on the Parkway.
