Student Conference on Global Challenges at Drexel Addresses Global Security

Drexel University’s Office of International Programs is hosting the 6th Annual Student Conference on Global Challenges on March 1, 2013, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year’s conference centers on global security, focusing on subjects from cyber security to food scarcity to human security. Students, community groups, faculty, professional staff and alumni will convene to examine what security means in the year 2013, and how it will change in the future.

“This conference is a great opportunity for students and faculty to explore critical areas in which they can enhance Drexel’s impact on global challenges one of the university’s strategic goals.” said Julie Mostov, vice provost for Global Initiatives at Drexel.

Ambassador Thomas Graham, Jr. will deliver a keynote at 1:30 p.m. on the synergy of science, politics and rights in the context of international security. Ambassador Graham is one of the leading authorities in arms control negotiations, notable for his role as a senior US diplomat in every major international arms control agreement over the past 40 years. Additionally, he serves as the executive chairman of Thorium Power, a company that holds patents on a new thorium-based nuclear power fuel.

The conference will feature student panels focusing on different areas of global security, including justice and human rights, health, media, business and economic trends, political and social trends, and science, technology and society. Each panel will be moderated by a Drexel University faculty member specializing in these areas.
