DrexelNow spoke with Matthew Ross Smith, adjunct professor of creative writing, about his current reading selections. Aside from teaching in the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of English and Philosophy, Matthew also created “Spaces Between Your Fingers,” a grassroots community art project that aims to connect people through storytelling and shared memories. Matthew’s interest in storytelling is evident in his most recent reading selection—the wildly popular Game of Thrones series by George R.R. Martin.

Why did you decide to read these books—what about them did you find important?

Important?  I'm not sure, but it's great storytelling.

Aside from the HBO adaption, these books have generated a lot of hype in their own right. So far, have they lived up to your expectations? Why or why not?

Absolutely.  This is the most fun I've had reading in a long time.

Is there a passage/quote you find particularly interesting?

"Winter is coming."
