More than 170 Children Participate in Inspire a Child to Dream Day at Drexel

On April 26, Drexel held its annual Inspire a Child to Dream Day on the University City Main Campus. The event coincides each year with National Take Your Daughter/Son to Work Day in April.

The program is open to children and relatives, ages 7-14, of employees at Drexel University, the College of Medicine and the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. The event features fun activities and programs organized by various University departments, schools and colleges.

Nearly 170 children participated this year, which is a new record for this event at Drexel. In total, 12 departments, colleges and schools volunteered to host activities for the visiting guests.

The children conducted science experiments in Behrakis Grand Hall, played around with simulation manikin “zombie” makeup over at the College of Nursing and Health Professions and even met Eagles tight end Clay Harbor as well as members of the Drexel men’s and women’s basketball teams.

Every year, a book drive is held to benefit patients at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. Last year the book drive collected more than 300 books. Although final numbers are not yet in for this year’s drive, Althea Wallace, director of programs and events in the Department of Human Resources, is certain this year’s collection will surpass last year’s numbers.
