Drexel to Co-Host Womens Economic Security Forum

The U.S. Department of Labor Philadelphia Region’s Women’s Bureau will join the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Drexel University and other federal agencies and nonprofit organizations to co- host a free forum. “Women’s Economic Security Forum: Promoting Equal Pay, Workplace Flexibility and Resources for Women-Owned Businesses” will take place on Monday, Sept. 12 from 8 a.m. to noon (EDT) at Drexel University’s Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building, located at the corner of 33rd and Chestnut Streets in Philadelphia.

The half-day forum will focus on why the wage gap between men and women persists, how it impacts individuals, families and communities, and actions that can be taken towards achieving fair pay. Activities include informational workshops by government and non-profit agencies, and a tour of the Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building.

Featured guest speakers include Sara Manzano-Díaz, director of the Women’s Bureau; Spencer Lewis, district director of the EEOC; Vincent Whipple, acting deputy regional director of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs New York District Office; Marianne Bellesorte, senior director of policy of Pathways PA; and representatives from other federal agencies and Drexel University.

“While progress has been made in narrowing the gap between women and men, the gap persists and increases among minority women,” said Lucia Bruce, administrator of the Women’s Bureau’s Philadelphia Regional Office. “The Women’s Bureau looks forward to hosting this event with its partners to educate the public about equal pay and other topics relevant to women’s economic security.”
