Governor Ed Rendell to Be Honored by Drexels College of Arts and Sciences

What: Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell will be the guest of honor at the 20th anniversary gala for Drexel University’s College of Arts and Sciences. Rendell has been a longtime enthusiast of the college since 1990 when Drexel merged the College of Science with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences to form the current College of Arts and Sciences (CoAS).While mayor of Philadelphia, Rendell supported the merger of Drexel and MCP Hahnemann University—which operated the bankrupt Alleghany University of the Health Sciences—facilitating growth of the life sciences and enrollment at Drexel’s College of Arts and Sciences. As governor he has continued his enthusiasm for the college’s and Drexel’s initiatives. With more than 600 freshmen this fall, the College welcomed the second largest freshman class at the University this year. Currently under construction the Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building will become a landmark for scientific research in Pennsylvania and the future of integrated science. CoAS faculty and students received more than $17 million in 2009 in extramural research awards.Who: In addition to Gov.
