Drexel University’s Center for The Prevention of School-Aged Violence and MiND TV will present an evening of community dialogue on topics of violence prevention and exploring peace on July 20, 2010 at the Edmund D. Bossone Research Enterprise Center, in Mitchell Auditorium (Market Street between 31st and 32nd Streets) at 6 p.m. This will be an opportunity to hear from local leaders, and explore stories of citizens overcoming violence and working for peace in their communities.“This event is intended to create community dialogue, to point us in the direction of a more peaceful way of life,” said Kim Kunda, MiND’s Marketing Manager. “When we all work together toward a common goal like this, we can make change. This is just the beginning.”The evening will feature a 30-minute screening of new 5-minute programs from MiND Members, MiND, and Drexel's Center for the Prevention of School Aged-Violence in the Goodwin College of Professional Studies. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with local leaders including Charlotte Council, Deputy Police Commissioner; Barry Morrison, President of the Philadelphia Anti-Defamation League; Kevin Orangers, Vice President of Programs at the National Liberty Museum; Patricia Harner, Executive Director for the Physicians for Social Change; and more. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Chuck Williams, Director for Drexel’s Center for the Prevention of School Aged-Violence in the Goodwin College of Professional Studies.“Community screenings are effective in that they enable the community to become educated about important issues related to violence and violence prevention. It also makes any subsequent discussions more dynamic and engaging,” said Dr. Williams. During the panel discussion, special attention will be brought to violence as it affects youth in the Philadelphia community. “One of the major issues, which will be discussed during the panel discussion, will be bullying and cyber bullying. Another key issue will be community responsibility as it relates to violence prevention. Often, I am called upon to discuss either issue,” said Dr. Williams.
