Drexel Mens Basketball to Open Season on ESPN vs Penn in the DAC

The Drexel men’s basketball team will start the season in the national spotlight as the Dragons host Penn at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on ESPN on Nov. 18. The game will be part of ESPN’s college hoops marathon, which will feature 14 games spread over 23 consecutive hours. The Dragons and Quakers will tip off at 10 a.m. The Dragons and Quakers will meet in the “Battle of 33rd Street.” The two schools are separated by Chestnut Street in Philadelphia and each year a trophy is awarded to the winner. This will be the 13th straight season the teams have met, but the first time ever in the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Last year, the Dragons edged the Quakers in overtime, 67-59.The games begin at midnight Eastern Time with Memphis hosting Massachusetts. It wraps up with Kentucky and North Carolina meeting in Chapel Hill at 9 p.m. There are games featuring teams in 14 conferences and one women's game. It also includes four NIT semifinals and two games in the CBE Classic, including defending national champion Kansas hosting Florida Gulf Coast. Every game on ESPN and ESPN2 will be simulcast on ESPN360.com. There will be two studio shows, including a four-hour special beginning at 6 a.m. ET. College GameDay will be in Chapel Hill at 8 p.m. ET.ESPN is returning to the DAC for the first time since the 1994-95 season, when the Dragons and Malik Rose defeated Northeastern in the North Atlantic Conference championship game. Last year the Dragons hosted George Mason in an ESPNU game. During the 2006-07 season, ESPNU was also in the DAC for the National Invitation Tournament game against North Carolina State.
