Drexel Students to Get Sneak Peek of Dynamic Google Microsoft Web Tools

What: Drexel students will check out powerful Google and Microsoft computing applications — some that work on cell phones — at a demo to kick off the University’s new partnerships with the companies. Students will also sign up to use the applications that will help them get ahead. The partnerships provide students with more than 25 gigabytes in e-mail mailboxes and file storage, collaboration tools, Web-based calendars, personal blogs and more. LinkEdu, the University’s partner program, stands apart in higher education, combining the strength of the world’s largest IT companies with Drexel’s technology leadership. All 21,000 Drexel students have the option to use any combination of Google and Microsoft services as well as University-provided e-mail, calendar and storage services — a rare offering at a time when many universities are outsourcing e-mail to just one company.Visuals: • Google and Microsoft representatives demonstrating for students Google Apps Education Edition, Microsoft’s Live@edu and other applications on eight computers • Students signing up for services that will help them in and out of the classroom • Google representatives filming student testimonials in a booth on software such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs and Google TalkWhen: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, March 3 Peak time: Noon to 1 p.m.Where: Lobby of Drexel’s Creese Student Center, 32nd and Chestnut streetsNews media contact: Brian Rossiter, Drexel News Bureau 215-895-2705, 267-228-5599 (cell) or brian.rossiter@drexel.edu
