Drexel Business Students Volunteer to Help IRS Provide Free Tax Assistance for Lower Income Tax Paye

Students from Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business and the University’s Beta Alpha Psi accounting, finance and MIS fraternity are partnering with the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to prepare income taxes at no cost for lower income individuals and families.“More than 30 student volunteers will be completing VITA online training with the IRS,” said Dr. George P. Tsetsekos, dean of Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business. “As a partner of the Philadelphia community, LeBow College of Business is pleased to have this opportunity to provide this service and give back to those who need assistance.” From Feb. 4 to April 9 certified volunteers will prepare Federal, Pennsylvania and New Jersey returns for individuals and families earning less than $40,000 per year from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday. The volunteers will be at the Pearlstein Business Learning Center on 32nd and Market Streets. “We are proud to join with the students at Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business to offer complimentary tax assistance to residents of Philadelphia,” said Glenn Rollins, Sr. Stakeholder Relationship Tax Consultant, IRS Stakeholder Partnerships, Education & Communication. “These student tax preparers will be well-equipped to handle the various types of returns and help people file their returns accurately and on time.”Students will receive training on the Link and Learn IRS site as well as on the TaxWise software. After training, students must score 80 percent or higher to become IRS-certified tax preparers. Taxes will be prepared by appointment only.
