CEO for Wachovia's Mid-Atlantic Banking Group Hugh C. Long II will receive Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business 2007 Business Leader of the Year (BLOY) Award at a luncheon attended by Greater Philadelphia’s leading business executives on December 6. With Wachovia for more than 30 years, Long has served as Atlanta Regional President and President of First Union Mid-Atlantic, First Union Georgia and First Union Washington D.C. He also served in a variety of senior executive roles in the company’s corporate and commercial banking groups. Long’s leadership extends beyond his professional duties to the community, where he is a member of the board of directors for numerous organizations including the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, Innovation Philadelphia, Central Philadelphia Development Corporation, Drexel University, the Committee of Seventy, Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, Boy Scouts of America Cradle of Liberty Council, Girl Scouts of Southeastern Pennsylvania Advisory Council, Philadelphia Orchestra Association and the Kimmel Center. He received a bachelor of arts from Virginia Military Institute.Previous BLOY recipients include G. Fred DiBona Jr., president and chief executive officer of the Philadelphia-based health insurance corporation Independence Blue Cross (IBC); Betsy Z. Cohen, founder, CEO and chair of RAIT Investment Trust and The Bancorp Bank; C.R. “Chuck” Pennoni, chairman of the international engineering firm Pennoni Associates Inc.; and Raj L. Gupta, Drexel trustee and chairman, president and CEO of Rohm and Haas Company.Proceeds from the event will establish a scholarship fund and technical upgrades and advancements in Drexel’s LeBow College of Business.
