April 16, 2009

October 10, 1969: Joseph R. DiPalma, MD, Dean of Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital with Mr. John Moyer standing behind him signs the formal merger of Monmouth and Hahnemann with Mr. Robert C. Stanley (seated) and Mr. Monroe Eisner, President of Monmouth Board of Governors on the right.

Alumni and officials from Drexel University College of Medicine and Monmouth Medical Center are celebrating 40 years of collaboration in medical education. A reception was held at Monmouth in April to mark the innovative partnership, which began in 1969 between the New Jersey hospital and what was then Hahnemann Medical College.

Today the partnership continues to flourish. Each year, more than 300 Drexel medical students undergo their clinical rotations at Monmouth, one of New Jersey's largest community teaching hospitals.

Unique to the collaboration is the Monmouth Medical Scholar program, which unites Monmouth Medical Center, Monmouth University, and Drexel University College of Medicine through an eight year program which encourages future physicians to stay in the region and practice medicine in the local community.
