Shelini Sooklal, MD, is a gastroenterologist practicing in Center City Philadelphia. She has a special interest in the management of pancreatic and biliary disorders.

Dr. Sooklal is an advocate for patient education on colorectal cancer screening and prevention. She was awarded the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy 2017 Community Outreach Award for the patient education video on colon cancer entitled "Big 50."

Shelini Sooklal, MD, is a faculty member in the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Drexel University College of Medicine.

She actively participates in clinical and quality improvement research. She has recently presented her work during a podium presentation at Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2018, which is is the world's largest gathering of physicians and researchers in the fields of gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy and gastrointestinal surgery. At DDW 2018, she was also presented with an award and recognized as an Early Career Investigator for her novel research on chronic cannabis use and its impact on gastrointestinal symptoms, endoscopy and high-resolution esophageal manometry findings.

Research

Dr. Sooklal's research interests include assessment and quality improvement of colonoscopy bowel preparation, cannabis and its impact on the gastrointestinal tract, barriers to accessing digestive care in underserved populations, novel endoscopy techniques, pancreaticobiliary diseases and the impact of newer anticoagulant medications on bleeding during endoscopic procedures.

She is also a clinical reviewer for the ACG Case Reports journal, as well as an abstract reviewer for the American Gastroenterological Association DDW 2019 Gastroenterology Fellows–Directed Quality Improvement session.
