Kamran Mohiuddin, MD, MBA, is program director of Drexel University College of Medicine's graduate programs in clinical research. He previously served as director of clinical research and director of the research internship at Albert Einstein Medical Center.

Dr. Mohiuddin is an accomplished clinical researcher with 13 years of experience in medical and health care operations management, business development, grant-writing, clinical research, and clinical trial management in the fields of thoracic surgery, oncology, medicine, rare diseases, endocrinology and cardiovascular disease. He has expertise in medical monitoring, team development, leadership and diplomacy with blue-chip global organizations. He has a thorough knowledge of FDA Good Clinical Practice and International Conference on Harmonization guidelines, and regulatory requirements for clinical development.

He also has several years of experience in data management and analysis and has managed a team of business leads for clinical data capabilities. Dr. Mohiuddin has developed and implemented policies and systems that assure the integrity of organizations, protect the safety and welfare of employees and research subjects, and promote compliance with all regulations governing the research process. His customer-focused approach to researchers balances proactive outreach, responsiveness and sound fiscal management.

Dr. Mohiuddin comes to Drexel with a deep understanding of clinical trial development within various trial phases, and a working understanding of cross-functional drug development. His scientific learning agility allows him to quickly develop a sound working knowledge of new therapeutic areas. His clinical skills include emerging market health care, clinical trial management, community education, health care economics, project management, contract negotiations, study design and management, research and development of clinical operations, the establishment of clinical development plans, leading the strategic growth of the research portfolio, and providing oversight of research-related operations and research compliance. He has served as a permanent member of institutional review boards.

Throughout his career, Dr. Mohiuddin has had measured successes in piloting organizations with complex business challenges, and has proven business acumen and a history of inspiring team members to achieve lofty goals. A skillful communicator with those from diverse international cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds, he is adept at conveying complex concepts to a broad range of audiences, and building consensus in ever-changing team environments. He is an adept business development tactician with expertise in plan strategy, auditing, development and execution.

Dr. Mohiuddin has established systems to identify and procure grant funding for research, and provided data that demonstrates an organization's financial commitment to its research mission, as well as setting guidelines for the accounting and reporting of research grants and contracts. He has monitored and enforced the requirements of granting agencies to protect institutions and served as a liaison to allow a cohesive, efficient grant-management process and to ensure that the relationship with sponsors or institutes positively reflects, attracts and retains prestigious and innovative research projects.

During Dr. Mohiuddin's tenure at Einstein Medical Center, the Department of Emergency Medicine and Department of Medicine actively participated in several industry-sponsored, NIH-funded, investigator-initiated clinical trials, and received several grants. As director of research interns in the Department of Emergency Medicine, he oversaw a wave of interns recruitment, an increase in research and scholastic activities, and under his leadership, the department supported research activities for the entire network.

Research

Dr. Mohiuddin has served as principal/co-PI or sub-investigator on several grants, most recently the AURORA Study, a major national research initiative to improve the understanding and prevention of traumatic events, and recovery of individuals who have experienced them. AURORA is supported by more than $30 million in funding from NIH, private foundations and partnerships with leading tech companies such as Mindstrong Health and Verily Life Sciences, the health care arm of Google’s parent company, Alphabet.
