David Tichansky, MD, MBA, FACS, is a professor and academic chair of the Department of Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine. He is also the chair of the Department of Surgery at the flagship hospital of Tower Health, Reading Hospital. Dr. Tichansky comes to Drexel and Tower Health from Thomas Jefferson University, where he held the positions of professor; division director of minimally invasive, metabolic and bariatric surgery; medical director of the Jefferson Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery program, and program director of the Jefferson Bariatric Surgery Fellowship.

Dr. Tichansky is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and fellowship trained in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. He graduated from New Jersey Medical School with honors. He went on to complete his general surgery residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, a surgical oncology research fellowship at the Wistar Institute and Jefferson, and a minimally invasive and bariatric surgery fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia – Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.

Following training, Dr. Tichansky has had positions in both academic institutions and private practice, in which he has been extensively involved in programmatic development and leadership. He is active in the leadership of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and serves as a certifying examiner for the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Tichansky is a member of several prominent surgical societies including the American College of Surgeons Society of Surgical Chairs and The Halsted Society, and is a fellow of the Philadelphia Academy of Surgery.

Dr. Tichansky has been a funded laboratory and clinical researcher conducting work in the fields of cancer biology, minimally invasive surgery and bariatric surgery, focused on improving patient safety, outcomes and care. He has authored or co-authored 90 peer-reviewed articles, 12 book chapters, and more than 160 scientific presentations.

Dr. Tichansky earned his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with double majors in strategic management and OID (operations, information and decisions).
