Office of Faculty Faculty Awards

The 2024 call for nominations for Faculty Awards is now closed.

The 2024 Faculty Awards will be presented at the annual Faculty Professional Development Day on June 6, 2024, at the Health Sciences Building and via Zoom. Faculty Day registration details will be available soon. Nominees should place a hold on their calendar for this date, as both nominees and awardees will be honored.

Faculty members are encouraged to nominate colleagues and mentors for the following awards:

Excellence in Research and Scholarship

  • Early Career Basic Science Investigator Award
    Rank: Assistant Professor
    This award is presented to an assistant professor, recognizing a promising and outstanding evolving investigator in the early stages of their career. Basic science faculty at the assistant professor rank with tenure-track appointments are eligible. The chair of a basic science department or tenured faculty members may submit nominations for this award.
  • Early Career Clinical Scientist Award
    Rank: Assistant Professor
    This award is presented to a faculty member at the rank of assistant professor who has made contributions to the field(s) of biomedical research, educational research, quality improvement, community engagement and/or health care research, with consideration of funding, scholarly productivity and emerging research leadership.
  • Mid-Career Basic Science Investigator Award
    Rank: Associate Professor
    This award recognizes a faculty member at the rank of associate professor who is an outstanding and established investigator in a basic science field and displays promise for future accomplishments and leadership. Basic science faculty at the rank of associate professor with tenure-track appointment or tenure are eligible. The chair of a basic science department or tenured faculty members may submit nominations for this award.
  • Mid-Career Clinical Scientist Award
    Rank: Associate Professor
    This award is presented to a faculty member at the associate professor rank who is an outstanding and established investigator who has made significant contribution(s) to the field(s) of biomedical research, educational research, quality improvement, community engagement and/or health care research, as evidenced by funding, scholarly productivity and research leadership.
  • Julian Marsh Faculty Scholar Award
    Rank: Professor
    This prestigious award is presented to a faculty member at the rank of professor who has demonstrated excellence in clinical or basic scientific research. Additionally, the candidate has achieved national/international recognition, demonstrated outstanding teaching skills, mentored students as well as peers and provided consistent, high-quality leadership to the medical school, thereby creating a better environment for all faculty and students.

Excellence in Education

  • Clinical Educator Award
    Rank: Assistant or Associate Professor
    This award is presented to a faculty member at the rank of assistant or associate professor who has demonstrated commitment and excellence to the education of phase two and three medical students through innovative educational programs, serving as a teacher, an educational leader, a mentor and a role model to students and colleagues.
  • Angelo Pinto Educator Award
    Rank: Associate Professor or Professor
    This award is presented to a faculty member at the rank of associate professor or professor who has demonstrated commitment and excellence to the education of graduate students and/or phase one medical students (MS1 and MS2) through innovative educational programs, serving as a teacher, an educational leader, a mentor and a role model to students and colleagues.
  • June Klinghoffer Clinical Educator Award
    Rank: Professor
    This lifetime achievement award recognizes a faculty member at the rank of professor who has devoted their career to promoting excellence in clinical skills education and knowledge, serving as an innovative educator, a leader and a role model for students, residents and faculty colleagues.

Excellence in Patient Care

  • Emerging Clinical Leader and Innovation Award
    Rank: Assistant or Associate Professor
    This award recognizes an assistant or associate professor who is a leader and champion, and who exhibits visible leadership abilities to drive innovative advances in patient safety or quality improvement initiatives, leading to creative projects with potential for substantial impact and sustainability.
  • Oksana Korzeniowski Patient Care Award
    Rank: Open to all ranks
    This award recognizes a faculty member at any stage of their career who demonstrates outstanding skills and commitment in the clinical care of patients and through their teaching has substantially improved the skills and knowledge of residents, students and medical colleagues.
  • William Likoff Clinical Excellence Award
    Rank: Professor
    This award recognizes a faculty member at the rank of professor with a long-established career whose professionalism, humanity, ethical standards, diagnostic acumen and ability to develop outstanding clinical programs serves as a role model for those striving for excellence in the practice of medicine.

Excellence in Community Outreach

  • Emerging Leader in Community Outreach Award
    Rank: Assistant or Associate Professor
    This award recognizes a faculty member at the rank of assistant or associate professor who demonstrates emerging leadership in health equity, community advocacy, outreach in science education, and/or encouragement of equity and inclusion in STEM fields. The awardee exhibits emerging leadership in outreach, influencing outcomes and making impact in our communities.
  • Vincent Zarro Community Outreach Award
    Rank: Associate Professor or Professor
    This award recognizes a faculty member at the rank of associate professor or professor whose exemplary and selfless commitment to the care of members of medically underserved communities serves as the standard for medical students seeking to embrace and provide high quality care to all regardless of age, race, socioeconomic class, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity or religion and to be an advocate for uniform access to health care.

Excellence in Mentoring and Leadership

  • Drexel University College of Medicine Institutional Service Award
    Rank: Open to all ranks
    This award honors faculty members at any rank who consistently share their time and experience in service to internal committees, task forces and other institutional activities that have made a significant impact on the Drexel University College of Medicine community.
  • Faculty Professional Development, Sponsorship and Allyship Award
    Rank: Open to all ranks
    This award is presented to a faculty member at any rank who has made outstanding contributions to the career growth of colleagues with a focus on strategic career planning, allyship, sponsorship, and/or creation of faculty development programming in their department, institution or professional organization.

  • Elias Abrutyn Mentoring Award for Clinical Faculty
    Rank: Professor
    This award recognizes a clinical faculty member at the rank of professor who has demonstrated excellence in mentoring colleagues, residents and/or students, by creating a supportive, effective environment in one or more of the following areas: research, clinical care, education and scholarship, while advocating for the advancement of their mentees in their chosen discipline and serving as a trusted advisor and role model. This awardee demonstrates a commitment to diversity and promoting a sense of belonging to create an inclusive training environment.
  • Award for Excellence in Basic Science Mentoring

    This award recognizes a faculty member at the rank of professor who exhibits substantial leadership to transform and make change through example and articulates an energizing vision. This faculty member encourages, inspires, mentors and sponsors a diverse, inclusive and equitable next generation of clinicians, scientists, educators and staff.
