General Adult Psychiatry Residency Our Residents

Chief Residents

Lindsey Harvilla, DO

Lindsey Harvilla, DO

Hi, everyone! My name is Lindsey Harvilla, and I am excited to be serving as one of the chief residents for the 2018-2019 academic year. Throughout the year, I will be overseeing clinical activities at Hahnemann University Hospital, as well as the outpatient psychiatry clinic located at 1427 Vine Street. I look forward to helping train and advance the experience of both medical students and residents in our field.

I started my academic career at Pennsylvania State University, where I majored in general biology. I continued to medical school at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where I obtained my DO degree. From there, I was overjoyed to return to my home state of Pennsylvania to complete my residency at Drexel. Since moving to Philadelphia, I have loved exploring each unique neighborhood and visiting the various museums the city has to offer. I also enjoy traveling frequently, discovering new restaurants and spending time with my family, friends and dachshund.

Abena Apraku, MD

Abena Apraku, MD

I am a chief resident in Drexel University's Adult Psychiatry Residency program for the 2018-19 academic year. In that role, I am responsible for overseeing residents at Friends Hospital and the Merakey outpatient clinic.

Before joining Drexel’s residency program, I earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Virginia and a doctor of medicine degree from Ross University. I also spent two years as a social worker in Washington, D.C.

I am committed to mental health. As a general psychiatrist, I treat the full range of mental disorders; I am motivated to practice at the frontier of both psychopharmacotherapy and psychotherapy.

I have an international outlook. Besides the east coast of North America, I have lived in West Africa and the West Indies. In addition, my spouse lives in Europe. In our spare time, we love to travel the world to see new places and meet new people.

My open outlook informs my approach to psychiatric practice. A commonality of our humanity is the complex fragility of our brains. The promise of psychiatry is that fragility can be managed – allowing mental health patients, regardless of color and creed, to lead fulfilled lives. My passion is to make good on that promise.
