Drexel University College of Medicine residency programs are known for their academic, teaching and clinical excellence. The family medicine program is a three-year, newly-expanded to 7-7-7 program and residents assume progressive responsibility for patient care as they progress through the training program. Residents gain experience in multiple care settings during rotations at Hahnemann University Hospital and while training at our affiliate hospitals in the urban Philadelphia area. Residents rotate as peer residents at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, which offers an excellent, unique experience as part of a well-rounded, comprehensive education.
Our outpatient office in vibrant Manayunk has received NCQA recognition as a Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home, and was the first physician office at Drexel Medicine to have the electronic medical record. Here residents build their own panel of continuity patients under the supervision of Family Medicine faculty. Our faculty has a wide range of professional interests and expertise including medical informatics, medical humanities, care of the underserved, geriatrics and palliative care medicine, women's health, and sports medicine.
Faculty to the residency program are full-time faculty of the College of Medicine. The family medicine residency endeavors to promote critical thinking and self-learning skills through a variety of clinical rotations and research opportunities and a structured conference schedule. Emphasis is given to evidence-based medicine at the point-of-care. Residents have full access by internet to the libraries of Drexel University and the College of Medicine.
The Department of Family, Community and Preventive Medicine is the provider of both student health and sports medicine services for Drexel University, which offer unique opportunities for our family medicine residents, and supplement the excellent broad-based foundation of family medicine education that our residents receive.
We look forward to helping you become the best family physician you can be!
Please note that residents and fellows are employed by and insured by the hospital; they are not employees of Drexel University.
