FOCUS on Success

The Master of Science in Medical Science (MMS) program is designed to help talented students develop strong, well-rounded academic portfolios and become competitive candidates for medical school.

Located on the Center City Campus of Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this intensive two-year, 58- to 62-credit program combines challenging graduate coursework, research experience and personalized advising.

Admissions Requirements

  • Undergraduate GPA greater than 3.0
  • All pre-medical requirements
  • MCAT score greater than 50th percentile
  • Interest in research

Year 1: FOCUS on Academics

During the first year, students build academic skills and enhance their credentials. Required courses include Biochemistry, Physiology, Cell Biology & Histology, Neuroanatomy, as well as courses in professionalism and leadership.

Students take demanding graduate biomedical coursework presented by medical school faculty. The curriculum is comparable to coursework taken during the first year of medical school. A number of elective courses allow students to enhance their credentials and prepare for success in future educational endeavors. Students who take the full MMS curriculum and meet specific criteria are guaranteed an interview at Drexel University College of Medicine.

Year 2: FOCUS on Research

Students work with leading scientists doing cutting-edge research while strategically preparing for the application process.

The MMS research experience is rigorous and transformative; it sets the program apart from other post-baccalaureate programs and sets MMS graduates apart from other applicants to medical school.  MMS students:

  • engage in meaningful hands-on research
  • ask important questions
  • develop technical expertise
  • hone critical thinking skills
  • learn how to analyze and communicate their findings
  • establish lifelong professional relationships

Admission to the MD Program

A number of academically excellent pre-medical and pre-health program graduate students are interviewed each year for admission to the Drexel University College of Medicine MD program. The MD program enrolls a strong cohort of students from the Interdepartmental Medical Science (IMS), Master of Science in Biological Science (MBS) and Master of Science in Medical Science (MMS) programs. For the past several years IMS, MBS and MMS graduates comprised about ten percent of the entering MD class.
