Ongoing Individual and Group Volunteer Needs


****Please note that, due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the Lindy Center has suspended many of our student and staff volunteer programs and we have not updated the following list. To find more up-to-date resources during this time, please visit our "Engagement During Coronavirus" page, which includes a link to our "Taking Action during Coronavirus" page with a list of organizations that need volunteer/financial assistance currently. Anyone participating in in-person volunteer activities should follow CDC guidelines for protecting yourself and others from COVID-19.

The following organizations are seeking individual students and student organizations to sign-up for one or more shifts throughout the year. No long-term commitment or experience is necessary! To learn about one-time opportunities, please make sure you're signed up for our newsletter here!

Community Building:

Dornsife Center Community Dinner | First Tuesday of Every Month | 5pm-8pm | 3509 Spring Garden St | Volunteers are needed for greeting participants, making packets to hand out, assisting with check-in, keeping the dinner line flowing, serving dinner to participants. | Sign-up here. 

Pennsylvania Immigration and Citizenship Coalition | Most Mondays and Fridays | 9:30am-10:30am or 11:30am-12:30pm | 30 N 41st St | Every week, the lives of hundreds of families are changed by becoming US Citizens. PICC believes that voting is one of the foundations of being an engaged citizen, so we attend every ceremony in Philadelphia to register new citizens to vote. Our Closet Pop Up Shops | Selected Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays | 9am-1pm | Locations Vary | Our Closet: Powered by JFCS is a volunteer-driven, community-based organization that provides clothing to vulnerable Philadelphians free of charge by way of pop-up clothing shops in the city. Our goal is to create a dignified and welcoming space where community members can receive clothing with respect and pride. The clothing we distribute is entirely donated, and we rely on the support of volunteers to help collect and sort clothing, as well as to help run the pop-up. We have weekly pop-ups and need volunteers to come out and help run the store, as sales associates from 9am-1pm. | Sign-up here.

Meal Services

Chosen 300 | Various Evenings and Weekends | Times Vary | 1116 Spring Garden St. Philadelphia PA |Chosen 300 works to bring people of different membership groups together; helping them to realize that despite our differences in our race, ethnic group, denomination, social class, economic classes, or the diverse ways we practice our faith; we can unify ourselves for the common good. Volunteers are asked to assist with the sound room, monitor halls, serve meals, hand out drinks, and greet guests at the door. To sign-up, visit here and email  

Grace Cafe at Arch Street United Methodist Church | Every Sunday | 4:45pm-7:30pm | 55 N. Broad St | Volunteer groups help prepare, serve and clean up the Grace Cafe meal which is served to over 150 individuals. | To sign-up a group of 10-20 individuals, click here.

Saturdays for Seniors | Any Saturday | 9:30am to 1:15pm | 401 Lombard St | Volunteers are needed for prepping and serving meals to seniors. | Information for volunteering here

Tenth Presbyterian Church Meal Service | 2nd Sunday of the month | 1:20pm-3pm | Tenth Presbyterian Church, 2nd Floor, Fellowship Hall - 1701 Delancey Pl, Philadelphia, PA 19103 | As God's people we seek the welfare of our communities by entering fully into the world of work and culture to love and serve our neighbors in his name. Volunteers will help to cook and prepare meals, serve food to our homeless neighbors, and clean dishes. | To sign-up a group of up to 15 people, email Ryan Roe at 


Food Insecurity

Jewish Relief Agency Food Packing | One Sunday a Month | Times Vary | 10980 Dutton Rd | 12 Sundays a year, JRA volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities meet at our Northeast Philly warehouse to pack and then deliver boxes of nutritious Kosher food to over 6,000 hungry people. | Sign-up here.

Friends of Cobbs Creek Park North | 1st or 3rd Saturday of the month  | 9am - 12pm | Cobbs Creek Library (or remote location) | Friends of Cobbs Creek Park North work to maintain the creek trail, groom the flower beds and more! Volunteers are needed to assist in maintaining the creek trail, grooming the flower beds, picking up litter, and recycling. To sign up, email Richard Guffanti at 


Philadelphia Orchard Project | Various Dates throughout June | Times Vary with Shifts | Locations Vary with Shifts | We invite you to join POP and our community partners in a wide range of events including planting and caring for orchards across the city; workshops and other educational programs about ecological orchard care and related topics; POPHarvest gleaning opportunities; and harvest festivals and other community events!
