CIVC 101 Teaching Assistants

Every CIVC 101 class is facilitated by both an adjunct instructor and an undergraduate Teaching Assistant (TA). TAs serve as an integral part of our program, supporting their fellow students, their instructor, and the Lindy Center staff through assisting with classroom processes, facilitation, student assessment, and more. This paid position is a great opportunity for undergraduates who have strong civic engagement backgrounds and are interested in motivating other students to be civically engaged by leading dialogues, working closely with the Lindy Center and a CIVC 101 instructor, and helping students enrolled in CIVC 101 pursue civic engagement opportunities.

If you are interested in being considered for this opportunity, the first step is to fill out this CIVC 101 TA Interest Form. We accept submissions on a rolling basis; see below for general hiring timelines. 

The Lindy Center generally hires CIVC 101 Teaching Assistants during the Fall term each year to start in the following Winter term. Around the end of Summer term each year, the hiring team will review the submissions to the above form and reach out to qualified applicants to schedule an interview during early Fall term. Once interviews are complete, the team will make hiring decisions and schedule a training for mid-late Fall term. Then trained TAs will be matched up with a Winter section of the course that fits their schedule. Please note that, once initially hired and trained for the TA position, students will continue to be given the opportunity to TA every term as long as they continue to meet the role's requirements. Students also can TA during terms when they are on co-op as long as there is a section that fits their schedule (there are usually some 5pm or later sections specifically for TAs on co-op).

CIVC 101 TA Leaders

Experienced CIVC 101 Teaching Assistants also have the opportunity to become TA Leaders - an additional leadership role with responsibilities that may include: facilitating skill- and community-building opportunities for the cohort of CIVC 101 TAs, assisting the CIVC 101 staff in the Lindy Center with hiring, training, and mentoring new Teaching Assistants, and providing a TA perspective to staff as they develop the CIVC 101 curriculum and program. 

Current Teaching Assistants who are interested in the TA Leader role should fill out this form by week 6 of the Fall term (TA Leaders will be notified of their acceptance in late Fall and serve from Winter term to the following Winter term - they do not need to be a Teaching Assistant each term to continue their Leader appointment).
