Course Development Grant for Drexel Faculty

The Lindy Center for Civic Engagement  has funds available for full-time faculty members to apply for a course development grant. This one-time grant is for up to $1,000 to support the development of one course that includes a civic engagement project. Up to half of the grant can be used directly by the faculty member and the remainder must be used for expenses related to the course project (eg. transportation, hospitality, project materials, etc).

A goal of this grant is to encourage discussion among faculty members leading to further integration of civic engagement into courses at the university. To this end, faculty receiving this grant will agree to participate in one CBL faculty development seminar by presenting and discussing their course/project and will attend one additional seminar during the year. Faculty development workshops are offered by the Lindy Center throughout the year.

Criteria for selection include:

  1. Identification of community partner(s), or potential partner(s), and initial project idea.*
  2. Inclusion of a civic engagement project relevant to the course.
  3. Clear experiential learning objectives for students in the course.
  4. Evidence that the course activity will involve collaboration and interaction with the community partner around a civic engagement issue.

Proposals should include the following:

  1. Name, Title, Department
  2. Course Title and Number
  3. Expected course enrollment
  4. Course description including how civic engagement will be integrated into the learning objectives of the course.
  5. A description of how the course will involve interaction with a community partner and benefit the community.
  6. A short budget explaining how the grant money will be used.

The Lindy Center for Civic Engagement will award at least 3 grants during the academic year. Please submit your proposal to Jennifer Johnson Kebea, Interim Director, Lindy Center for Civic Engagement at or by campus mail to our office at 3210 Cherry Street. Questions about this grant may be directed to Jennifer by email or at 215.895.2097.
