President's Volunteer Service Award and Global Volunteer Service Award for Faculty and Staff
Are you on track to complete 100+ hours of community service this year? The Lindy Center for Civic Engagement wants to recognize you!
Drexel University is a certifying organization of the President's Volunteer Service Award, an initiative of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) administered by Points of Light. Through a shared mission of inspiring more to answer the call to service, the President's Volunteer Service Award celebrates the impact we can all make in bettering our communities and our world. For students who are not citizens of the United States, we're offering the Global Volunteer Service Award to recognize you for the same achievements.
Who can receive the President's Volunteer Service Award and Global Volunteer Service Award?
The President's Volunteer Service Award recognizes United States citizens and permanent residents of the United States that have achieved the required number of hours of service over a 12-month time period (July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020), or, for the Lifetime Award, more than 4,000 cumulative service hours over a lifetime. Recognizing Drexel University's commitment to inclusivity, the Global Volunteer Service Award recognizes both Drexel's international workforce.
For each of these awards, individuals are recognized according to the following award criteria.
Young Adults Ages 16-25
Bronze: 100 – 174 service hours
Silver: 175 – 249 service hours
Gold: 250+ service hours
Adults Ages 26+
Bronze: 100 – 249 service hours
Silver: 250 – 499 service hours
Gold: 500+ service hours
What types of service are recognized?
Community service must be performed with one or more non-profit organizations. To verify if an organization is a non-profit organization, search their name here or contact email@example.com. Volunteers may not be paid for the service (only exceptions are AmeriCorps and Peace Corps stipends) and the service efforts must not be court-ordered. Additionally, the award only recognizes volunteer service as service hours completed; monetary or other in-kind contributions are not grounds for recognizing an individual with a President's Volunteer Service Award or Global Volunteer Service Award. Note that faculty and staff do not have access to the civic engagement database, but can view the ongoing individual and group opportunities and sign-up for newsletters.
