Professors, Cast Member from Tony-Nominated Broadway Production of Scottsboro Boys Lead Discussion
January 25, 2012 — Professors Donald Tibbs and Kevin Woodson will join Tony-nominated actor Forrest McClendon on Feb. 7 in a discussion of the Scottsboro Boys cases and the perspective of a performer from the original Broadway production.
The play recounts the story of nine black teen-aged boys who were accused of rape in Alabama in 1931. The episode sparked a set of legal cases that put a spotlight on racism and the right to a fair trial.
McClendon's performance in the Broadway musical based on the story earned him a Tony Award nomination for best featured actor. The play received 11 other Tony Award nominations.
The event, at noon in Room 340, is sponsored by the American Constitution Society, the Black Law Students Association, the Jewish Law Student Association and Drexel Federalists. Food will be served
