Discussion Focuses on Planned Parenthood v. Casey

January 25, 2011 — The Earle Mack School of Law at Drexel University hosts Kathryn Kolbert, who successfully argued Planned Parenthood v. Casey before the Supreme Court of the United States. She will talk about the landmark case at 4 p.m. on Feb. 21.

In 1992, in what is widely considered one of the most important reproductive rights rulings in the U.S., Ms. Kolbert represented five abortion clinics in the case that struck down the "Spousal Consent" law in Pennsylvania and ultimately upheld a woman's right to choose.  Ms. Kolbert is the director of Barnard College's Athena Center for Leadership Studies. She has been recognized by The National Law Journal as one of the "100 Most Influential Lawyers in America." Previously, she was president and CEO of People for the American Way and People for the American Way Foundation.

The discussion, sponsored by the Drexel Women's Studies Program, Drexel Law Students for Reproductive Justice and the Drexel American Constitution Society, will be held at 4 p.m. Feb. 21 in Room 240 of the Earle Mack School of Law. A reception will follow at 5 p.m.
