1L Required Event – Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers

Tuesday, January 21, 2020

12:15 PM-1:00 PM

The Kline School of Law will host Laurie Besden, Esq., Executive Director of Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers (LCL) of PA on Tuesday, January 21. LCL is a non-profit, completely confidential resource that helps lawyers and law students struggling with alcohol, drugs, depression, and other serious emotional illnesses. Laurie will be discussing her struggles with addiction as a law student and attorney, and sharing the resources available to you as students through LCL.

This session takes place in Mitchell Auditorium, in the Bossone Research Center, 3140 Market Street, and will begin promptly at 12:15 PM. All students who began this Fall are required to attend. Lunch will not be provided, but the talk will end at 1:00 PM.

For the remainder of the afternoon, Laurie will be available for individual closed-door talks in Room 337 of the Law Building, an office off the 3rd floor hallway. Interested students can stop by to speak with her confidentially, discreetly, safely, and privately about any type of addiction, alcohol issues, mental health disorder, gambling, stress, or depression questions or concerns – about themselves or about their friends or colleagues. Laurie will have literature and other resources on hand to address any ethical or bar application-related questions. All discussions are confidential, and there is no record of the visit. Other than inviting Laurie to visit, no member of the administration is involved.

Laurie will be accompanied by her dog, Amazing. While appointments do not need to be scheduled, you may schedule ahead with Laurie at laurie@lclpa.org if you choose.
