He has also litigated patent, trademark, and copyright cases involving consumer products and building designs. His litigation experience involves successfully trying cases to both juries and the bench, arguing appeals to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and representing clients in arbitration proceedings. Mr. Rocci has also been appointed to the American Arbitration Association’s panel of neutrals for disputes relating to intellectual property.

His counseling practice involves advising clients in areas such as freedom to operate, licensing, and complex patent prosecution matters, including reissue and reexamination proceedings, and strategic use of intellectual property. Before becoming an attorney, he worked as an engineer.

Accolades from Mr. Rocci’s clients include comments such as: “Steve is one of those rare individuals who is exceptionally smart but is able to explain complicated patent issues and technology in terms that a lay person can understand;” “It was your great skill as a patent lawyer that held it together and got us where we need to be;” and, “He quickly grasps how the issue impacts the business and has good judgment on how to solve the problem both from a legal and a business perspective.” One of Mr. Rocci’s opponents has commented that “Steve fought hard and aggressively for his client and obtained a good settlement for his client partially based on our desire to eliminate Steve’s leadership from the defense team.”

Mr. Rocci has served as an adjunct professor of Patent Law and Patent Litigation at Temple University School of Law since 1989 and also at the law school since 2006, where he has been bestowed with the title of distinguished practice professor of Intellectual Property Law. He is a host parent of A Better Chance Scholar, an organization that provides access to high quality education for motivated minority students from urban areas. He is also active in pro-bono matters, representing both causes and indigent individuals.

In recognition of his accomplishments, Mr. Rocci has been listed in the Chambers USA Guide to America’s Leading Business Lawyers, The Best Lawyers in America, and The Legal 500 (United States – patent litigation), and has been voted by his peers as one of Pennsylvania’s Super Lawyers in the field of intellectual property.
