6th Biannual Meeting for the Salud Urbana en América Latina Project

The sixth biannual meeting of the Salud Urbana en América Latina (SALURBAL) project convened project team members and collaborators from the across the region to provide updates on project data, systems modeling, policy evaluation studies, and dissemination activities. Levels and determinants of urban mortality: A focus on cities of Latin America

On September 4, 2019, a half-day event organized by the Drexel Urban Health Collaborative convened SALURBAL project researchers and regional experts to discuss challenges to collecting and working with mortality data in Latin America, and what we can learn about how urban environments might be influencing mortality and life expectancy across the region. Ana Diez Roux, Dean of Drexel’s Dornsife School of Public Health, four invited speakers with expertise from across Latin America, and three SALURBAL researchers from the Drexel Urban Health Collaborative presented their results and insights.
This event also marked the launch of a new SALURBAL data brief, which details the experience of the SALURBAL project in harmonizing and describing mortality data across 366 cities in 10 countries in Latin America. Read more.
5th Biannual Meeting for the Salud Urbana en América Latina Project & 7th Meeting of the Urban Health Network for Latin America and the Caribbean

On May 22-23, 2019, the fifth biannual meeting of the Salud Urbana en América Latina (SALURBAL) project and seventh meeting of the Urban Health Network for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC-Urban Health) brought together collaborators from country hubs and project partners. The biannual meetings are an opportunity for the SALURBAL team to share updates and collaboratively plan next steps over a three-day event that includes works-in-progress presentations, plenary sessions, and working meetings.
On May 24, 2019, a SALURBAL policy symposium, "Health, Housing, and Neighborhood Interventions in Brazil (Saúde, habitação e políticas urbanas no Brasil)," engaged local communities, policy audiences, technical experts, and researchers in a dialogue around urban health interventions and shared experiences of those involved in their design, implementation, and evaluations of their health impacts. The event encouraged debate regarding linkages between data and evidence and policymaking to inform multi-sectoral urban policies that improve health. The symposium was open to the public. Read more.
