Wired Network for Residence Halls

ResNet offers high performance WiFi using the  DragonFly3 wireless network  for all students living in University residence halls and wired Internet for many halls.  Bentley Hall, originally opened in 1972 as Calhoun Hall and completely renovated for fall  2019, and Kelly Hall, completely renovated for fall of 2023, will support only wireless Internet access with unprecedented wireless capacity.

For those using wired access, connect your computer to the wired network, plug your Ethernet cable into the jack which is typically located in the lower left (or just the lower) position of the wire station in your bedroom or common room. Not all jacks in a wire station have active service. Check the list of active network jacks to locate where service is enabled. After connecting you must configure or register your device before it will operate on the network.  See the instructions below based on where you reside.

Routers, switches, and Wi-Fi access points, bridges and extenders may not be connected to the Drexel network. Use of these devices is a violation of the Acceptable Use Policy. They interfere with the operation and security of the Drexel networks and degrade wireless service for everyone nearby.

Wired Configuration for Drexel's Residence Halls

Caneris, Millennium, Myers, North, Race Street, Stiles, Towers and Van Rensselaer Halls

Wired devices in the Residence Halls must be configured to support 802.1X user authentication or the Ethernet adapter address of the device must be registered. When you plug-in and browse to a web page, you will be re-directed to an on-boarding and registration web site which includes instructions on how to properly configure. During this process you will need to enter your Drexel username and password to complete the configuration. It is only necessary to enter your credentials one-time during the configuration process.

Once successfully configured your computer or device will work on any active Internet jack in the Residence Halls. So you can move your wired device between your room, a common room, or your friends room.

Wired game consoles (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo), TVs and TV Players (Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV) should connect automatically and do not require any special configuration or registration.

Note: The 802.1X configuration is lasting for as long as you have an active username and password.  It is no longer necessary to register quarterly. You only need to revisit your configuration if you change your password.

Tip: If your operating system is prompting you for username/password credentials each time you connect to the network, it is likely that you made a typo when entering your password as prompted by the installation wizard.   To correct this problem, repeat the installation instructions and re-enter your password very carefully when prompted.
