Add YouTube Videos to Drexel Streams/Kaltura

Posted on November 2, 2018

The YouTube module has been activated within Kaltura, allowing users to create entries in their Kaltura My Media for public videos from YouTube. Please note, this module does not copy or move any content from YouTube into Kaltura. It only allows a user to create a media entry that will stream the YouTube video through the Kaltura player.

Add a YouTube Video to Kaltura

In order to add a YouTube video to Kaltura, users can do the following:

  1. Log into Drexel Streams using your Drexel credentials.
  2. Click on Add New at the top right.
  3. Choose YouTube from the dropdown menu.
Screenshot of the YouTube option located under the Add New menu within Drexel Streams/Kaltura.
  4. Paste the Content ID or link to the YouTube video page in the box provided.
Screenshot of the area where the YouTube URL or Content ID is pasted within Drexel Stream/Kaltura.
  5. Click Preview.
  6. The Name and Description will be automatically populated with information from YouTube.
  7. Update fields and publication as necessary.
  8. Click Save.

Adding YouTube videos to Kaltua allows users to embed them directly into Learn without any additional YouTube content, as well as create a playlist that mixes user created content directly with YouTube content.

Since these entries only stream the content from YouTube through Kaltura, if the original video from YouTube is deleted, then the entry in Kaltura will no longer function and must be updated.
