TECH ALERT: Delay macOS Monterey & Windows 11 Upgrades

October 21, 2021

Faculty and professional staff with Drexel-provided computers should NOT update to macOS Monterey or Windows 11, which are being released October 2021. Drexel IT must first test critical Drexel software and systems—including Sophos Safeguard, our data encryption and security software—to ensure compatibility.

When an operating system is updated, some applications break and need to be updated to regain their compatibility. This is the case with macOS Monterey. Once again, we strongly recommend that faculty and professional staff DO NOT upgrade, even though some Drexel-provided macOS users might receive prompts or see the update as available.

As in years past, we anticipate approving the new macOS Monterey operating system early next year.

If you have questions or concerns, or inadvertently updated your Drexel-provided computer, contact the IT Help Desk at 215.895.2020 or helpdesk@drexel.edu. Information about how to upgrade to the new operating systems, once it is safe to upgrade, will be available on our Web site at drexel.edu/IT. We encourage you to visit and check our Web site often for updates.
