Drexel's CIO and CISO speak with our CyberDragons
October 23, 2018
Thomas DeChiaro, Chief Information Officer (CIO), and Dr. Pablo Molina, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of Drexel IT, visited the Drexel CyberDragons to educate students on the importance of information security and to scout talent for co-op positions.
CyberDragons is a student club that covers diverse information security topics each week. Members recently competed at the Penn State's Collegiate Penn Testing Competition and they advanced to the nationals! With all this talent at Drexel, Mr. DeChiaro and Dr. Molina are eager to expand the University's information security co-op program.
Mr. DeChiaro opened the session discussing his experience and the increased risk he faces while securing all of Drexel's information. Dr. Molina followed with a presentation about the numerous tools, experiences, and opportunities available to co-op students through the information security team. Michael Raffle, a current information security co-op student, talked about the perks of working in the information security office and the actual work that the team does. Senior IT Security Analyst Floria Siu concluded by announcing a new organization that she is founding: Women in Drexel IT. The organization serves as a resource for women to connect with other women working on and studying technology at Drexel. One of the organization's goals is to increase the number of women co-ops in Drexel IT in general and in information security in particular.
Many CyberDragons attended and some of them committed to apply for co-op opportunities at Drexel and other organizations.
