Upcoming Migration of Learn to SaaS
October 6, 2017
Drexel University IT has been working with Blackboard, Inc. on a plan to migrate our current, self-hosted Blackboard Learn environment into Blackboard’s cloud-based, SaaS environment. At this time we are tentatively scheduled to begin the migration process on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 2:00pm, after the deadline for final grade submission has passed and both Fall Quarter and Fall Semester have ended. This migration will require that the system is down for at least a week. The holiday break is generally used to prepare courses for the upcoming Spring Semester and Winter Quarter. Since the system will not be available until, at the earliest, December 27th, please plan to prepare those sections early. All Banner courses for these upcoming terms are available now within Drexel Learn.
Please note, all content in Drexel Learn prior to the shutdown for migration will be available in the SaaS environment once the migration is complete.
When we have final timings for the migration, we will post a more accurate assessment of how long the system will be down. We do not anticipate any major changes to the look and feel of the system. End users should notice little or no change in the way things work now. Any changes will be documented and available to all users. Migrating to the SaaS environment will eliminate most, if not all, scheduled system outages.
Please stay tuned for future announcements regarding this migration at drexel.edu/it/saas-migration.
