The Drexel University Online (DUO) Benefits Program is a comprehensive program that provides a wide range of benefits designed to meet your health care needs as well as offer financial security to you and your family both now and in the future. Some benefits are fully paid for by DUO, some are fully paid for by the employee and for some the cost is shared. The Health and Welfare Plan provides a wide range of health, life and disability insurance options and the retirement program is a 401(k) plan which provides for professional staff contributions and matching DUO contributions for eligible participants.

Eligibility differs for full-time and part-time professional staff. DUO defines full-time professional staff as individuals who work 40 hours per week. These individuals can participate in all benefit options. DUO defines part-time professional staff as individuals who work a minimum of 20 hours per week, but less than 40 hours per week. Eligible new hires can participate in Health and Welfare benefits the first of the month on or following their date of hire.

Health Benefits

Professional staff members and Drexel University Online share the cost of these benefits. Employees can enroll themselves and their dependents in benefits upon hire, during the Open Enrollment period, or if they meet a qualified life event. Eligible dependents include your spouse, same-sex Domestic Partners, and unmarried dependent children up to age 26.

Plan provides coverage both in and out-of-network. Dental for employee only is 100 percent employer paid. Enrollment form combines dental, life, AD&D and disability insurances.

Group Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance

All full-time professional staff is eligible for a benefit amount equal to two times your annual salary, rounded to the next higher 1,000 and to a maximum of $200,000.

Short-Term Disability

All active, full time professional staff is eligible for a weekly benefit equal to 60 percent of earnings up to $1,000 with benefits beginning on the 15th day for accident, sickness, or injury.

Long-Term Disability

All active, full time professional staff is eligible for a monthly benefit equal to 60 percent of predisability earnings up to $5,000 less other income sources. Elimination period of 90 days.

Retirement Benefits

The DUO retirement program is a 401(k) plan which provides for professional staff contributions and matching DUO contributions for eligible professional staff.

  • Full-time, benefit eligible professional staff and Part-time benefit-eligible professional staff are eligible for a DUO contribution as long as they are contributing to the plan.
  • DUO contributions begin when a professional staff member commits to at least a 1 percent. DUO will match the professional staff member's contribution at 117 percent, up to a maximum of 6 percent of their gross compensation each pay.
  • You may begin participation on your date of hire, but the effective date of your election will be the first payroll period following your enrollment.
  • All DUO professional staff are eligible to defer pre-tax dollars out of their pay into the plan except those in student employment, Co-op positions, temporary, casual and per diem employees. Retroactive contributions are not allowed per IRS regulations. Funds are invested through TIAA.

Healthcare and Dependent Care Spending Accounts

Provider: Ameriflex

Allows you to use pre-tax money to pay for qualified health care expenses (example: co-pays, deductibles, etc.) or eligible dependent care expenses relating to the care of your dependents. There is a 2.5 month grace period to use the funds; otherwise unused funds are forfeited at the end of each plan year.

Commuter Program

Provider: Wageworks

Set aside pre-tax money through a payroll deduction to pay for qualified transit or parking expenses.

Tuition Remission

DUO provides all full-time professional staff educational benefits for online programs offered at the University. Eligibility to receive professional staff Tuition Remission is effective upon completion of six months of full-time employment, up to $13,000 a year. Please review the Tuition Remission Policy (HR-22) for details.
