Description: To celebrate National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Drexel University Chief Information Security Officer, Dr. Pablo Molina will address graduate students about how to use information technology responsibly and not fall for scams, fake job offers, and other cybercrimes. This virtual talk will be useful to graduate students, postdocs, and to their family and friends.

Biography: Pablo Molina, DLS, Chief Information Security Officer; Associate Vice President of Information Technology, Drexel University. Molina serves as Drexel’s Chief Information Security Officer, charged with planning and implementing cybersecurity policy across the university. In addition to his expertise in cybersecurity methodology, he has an extensive background in ethics of technology and information management. Molina is the founder and executive director of the International Applied Ethics and Technology Association and on the board of the Electronic Privacy Information Center. He regularly comments on stories about privacy, ethics of tech companies, and laws related to technology and information management — including net neutrality, websites and tech companies protecting user data during investigations, and the ethics of the president’s election commission requesting state voter data.
Molina has previously held appointments as adjunct professor at Georgetown University, a senior lecturer at Washington University in Saint Louis and the University of Missouri in Saint Louis. In addition to his academic positions he has also served as an associate vice president for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer at Georgetown, CIO for Southern Connecticut State University, director of Information Technology at the University of Pennsylvania and director of Information Systems at Washington University at Saint Louis. Most recently he was the CIO for the Association of American Law Schools. He has written extensively on technology and information management and is a regular speaker at conferences related to technology, education and policy, and has presented to the United Nations, the American Bar Association, the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute and several other national and international bodies of governance and professional ethics.

Biography: In her role as Vice President and Chief Compliance, Privacy and Internal Audit Officer, Kim Upshaw leads both the Office of Corporate Compliance and Privacy and the Internal Audit Department, overseeing all ongoing activities related to the development, implementation, maintenance of, and adherence to Drexel’s policies and procedures covering the privacy of and access to sensitive information, including student information and patient information, in compliance with federal and state laws
