Job Title: COVID Surveillance Project Manager: Contact Tracer

Job Summary:

The COVID surveillance team will be responsible for identifying, investigating and performing contact tracing on all cases of exposed to, suspected of, or confirmed COVID individuals within the Drexel Community.  The case investigator is responsible for receiving reports of persons suspected or confirmed as having COVID 19, locating them and interviewing them in order to gather information necessary for public health investigation and contact tracing

Job Types: Full time (40 hrs/week) and part time (20 hrs/week) positions available

Duration: 3-12 months

Work Location: Fully remote

Responsibilities and Duties:

Contact Tracer

  • Call contacts of newly diagnosed patients
  • Communicate with contacts in a professional and empathetic manner
  • Collect and record information on symptoms into appropriate systems
  • Provide contacts with approved information about local quarantine/isolation procedures, and if appropriate, refer them to testing according to protocol and/or to a COVID-19 social resources
  • Follow a script to inform contacts about the importance of quarantine/isolation and what to do if symptoms develop
  • Escalate issues to epidemiology lead
  • Maintain daily contact with supervisor
  • Conduct telephone based interviews
  • Ability to access and navigate databases and software programs
  • Interview individuals for Case Investigations and Contact Tracing while maintaining confidentiality
  • Provide education on isolation and quarantine procedures per outlined protocol

Qualifications and Skills:

Contact Tracer: Active enrollment in a Bachelors degree program or higher level education

  • Ability to exhibit a professional, positive attitude and work ethic
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required and ability to show empathy and interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals during a time of crisis and distress
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Critical thinking and sound judgment required
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • Proficiency with computers and data entry into electronic tracking systems
  • Ownership of or ability to acquire a personal computer and broadband internet access
  • Ability to work remotely

Responsibilities and Duties:

Case investigator:

  • Interviewing & Data Collection
  • Calls newly diagnosed cases and collects data on symptoms, exposures, and persons with whom they have been in contact while infectious.
  • Communicates with contacts in a professional and empathic manner, assuring them of the confidentiality of the information collected and explaining how the contact information will be utilized.
  • Provide Health Education per CDC guidelines
  • Provides cases with approved information about state isolation procedures and monitors compliance with isolation.
  • Alerts Epidemiologists if the case is associated with a congregate or other high risk setting that requires additional public health investigation or intervention.
  • Following established procedures and/or script, incumbent will provide the ill individual with resources available for further information or support as needed.
  • Utilizes established database(s) to identify newly diagnosed patients.
  • Inputs data collected (i.e. symptoms, contacts, etc.) into database and assures database is kept up to date.
  • Provides data from Case Investigation efforts to Epidemiologists and/or Health Educators as necessary

Qualifications and Skills:

Case Investigator: Active enrollment in Bachelors degree program or higher level education in the healthcare field

Plus:

  • Knowledge of public health practices, communicable diseases, disease control, and epidemiologic methods.
  • Ability to manage, compile, analyze, and present data.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work with a variety of computer software packages.
  • An understanding of patient confidentiality, including the ability to conduct interviews without violating confidentiality (e.g., to those who might overhear their conversations).
  • Excellent and sensitive interpersonal, cultural sensitivity, and interviewing skills such that they can build and maintain trust with interviewees; ability to maintain confidentiality; judgement as to when to refer cases to other resources if needed.
  • Familiarity with CDC guidelines surrounding Case investigation and contact tracing
  • Completion of JHU Case investigation/Contact Tracking course recommended
  • Knowledge of REDcap Database a plus but not required
