About the Event
The Festival of Nations was founded in 2018 by former President of the International Graduate Student Association (IGSA), Melvin Mathew, PhD '20, in collaboration with the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and featured a wide variety of graduate and undergraduate student groups and organizations. Since then, the event has been held in several different locations across campus and included a variety of administrative sponsors and formats. The event went on hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic and returned in 2022.
"The idea is to showcase the diversity that exists within the Drexel community. It's about sharing and showcasing cultures through performances, music and cuisine. Most events held are generally delimited to undergraduates separate from graduates. We want to breakdown this barrier and provide university-wide exposure for the cultural organizations that students can get involved in. This year, Drexel’s Campus Activities Board worked with us to make this event happen. We’re hoping we can make this an annual festival celebrated by Drexel to showcase our unity in diversity. The [inaugural] Festival of Nations, to my knowledge, is the largest graduate and undergraduate collaboration held in quite a while," said Mathew.

The Graduate College agrees with Mathew's vision and continues to support the Festival of Nations as an annual event in alignment with the Graduate College's commitment to justice, equity diversity and inclusion (JEDI), in particular promoting an inclusive environment, belonging, collaborative community, JEDI programs and initiatives, and learning more about and celebrating what makes us unique.
