Drexel University joins Congo Basin Forest Partnership

On September 17, 2014, Drexel University celebrated its new membership in the Congo Basin
Forest Partnership (CBFP) at a welcome reception in Washington, DC. The reception, hosted
by the U.S. State Department Facilitation Team of the CBFP and including many members of
the diplomatic core saw the expansion of the University Consortium of CBFP with the addition of
Drexel, University of Maryland and the University of California, Los Angeles.
Dr. Katy Gondor, Associate Professor, Department of Biology, presented Drexel’s current
initiatives with the CBFP, including Dr. Gail Hearn’s Bioko Biodiversity Projection Program and
Dr. Gondor’s role in the Central African Biodiversity Alliance. Drexel staff, graduate students,
and post-docs in the Department of Biodiversity, Earth, and Environmental Science. Daniela
Ascarelli, Assistant Vice Provost for International Programs and Director, Study Abroad, Heidi
West, Director, International Programs, and Adam Zahn, Coordinator, International Programs
were also in attendance to support the new partnership, which will increase faculty research and
development as well as student opportunities in Central Africa.
