Global Classroom Roundtable: Focus on STEM

Thursday, June 17, 2021

9:00 AM-10:00 AM

During this roundtable, attendees will hear from STEM faculty at Drexel, and one of our partners at Politecnico di Milano, about their experiences developing virtual exchange projects into their existing courses and their successes, challenges, and recommendations for those wishing to develop their own Global Classrooms. STEM is generally underrepresented in international education, and the hope is that more faculty will want to engage students in these experiences to prepare them for academic and professional global collaborations.

Global Classrooms or Virtual exchange (also known as Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), Globally Networked Learning, or Telecollaboration) extends authentic opportunities for intercultural and transnational learning to students, as well as through co-curricular activities. Through co-developed and co-taught modules, virtual exchange supports the development of 21st-century workforce skills and provides opportunities for applied learning experiences.

The Drexel Global Classroom encourages faculty to include these opportunities in their pre-existing courses. Office of Global Engagement provides support for the development of these courses. First-time faculty are eligible to receive a $750 professional development stipend for these courses. More information can be found here.
